Natural Light Rolf Campos May 2021
Natural Light is an unfolding of our looking out at the world through shared perspectives. In this series, masses of land and bodies of water are composite images. They slip in and out of abstraction creating forms we intuitively regard as landscapes. Trees seem to be the main subjects here, but the light—interchangeably available, ambient, natural— suggests a more encompassing presence. Quietly cleared of everything but land, water and trees, the paintings are named after familiar places but, also, all places. These are the outdoors we have not gone (or gone home) to for over a year now as the pandemic assumes even more absurd forms.
These are the outdoors that exist indoors as resemblances and representations; an attempt to give shape to atmosphere.
