ABYSMAL INTROSPECTION

Searching for meaning is human nature and is the source of self-reflection—a subject dear and of much interest to artist Art Sanchez.

In his third solo exhibition entitled Abysmal Introspection, Sanchez once again features a behavior common to all human beings; through his works, he again compels his viewers to manifest their own version of this common behavior—introspection.

The mirrors in his works are metaphors of introspection which literally gives back a reflection; an effective way of forcing the viewer to take part in the artistic experience and encouraging them to go through the introspection process.

While Sanchez still used collage in mirror in this show, it is no longer the concentration of each piece. Rather than being recognizable random images inside a mirror, the collages have become mere shadows defining details or outlines of each work; thus requiring the viewers to center their attention to the cut-outs and silhouettes which are the highlights of the exhibition.
