Blanc Peninsula Manila in partnership with Silverlens Lab
Christina Dy continues her exploration of fireworks in her trademark mural style in this latest show at Blanc Peninsula.
Dy has been making her characteristic charcoal murals since 2007, making drawn environments, catching moments of all things temporal and fleeting– crashing waves, passing skies, and now, dying
fireworks.
She first started her fireworks series at a show in Silverlens Lab earlier this year, sparked by the loss of someone very dear to her. She says, ” Lives are a lot like fireworks– they die out. But before that, there’s this chance to shine brightly and beautifully.”
Her earlier fireworks drawings were small and precious, but now she expands her vision to include the entire wall of the gallery. “When you look at fireworks, don’t you sometimes wish to be swallowed by it? To dive right into the center of all that light?”
