In his most recent show, Don Djerassi Dalmacio presents his inquiries on the meaning of art itself. Down to the point of extreme questioning he carefully tries to disassemble the parts of a concept that makes up a whole, in where he hopes to unearth answers to things that actually tend to have no concrete answer at all. The most fascinating of these queries, is where he questions an artwork’s authenticity, or perhaps the truthfulness of the artist itself when it comes to both the conception and the materialization of an art piece. These days, such things are hard to determine as many factors are constantly appearing in the art world as it enters a crucial age, something that either terminates it to extinction or recreates it into a second renaissance of a sort.
Such questions eventually forces an individual to enter a state of philosophical anxiety, as to what really is the value of what one is doing, or if that action actually gets its message across. Does it really help the society? Being an artist?

Would it be better if one would just donate relief goods or extend refuge to disowned, disfigured cats and dogs? Rather
than plainly paint things? These issues then examine if art is really an act of connection or disconnection towards humanity and civilization. And if it is, up to what bounds does it involve itself?
Quite evident in the artist’s set of works are the presence SMPTE color bars, a type of television test pattern screen that usually appears after a station signs off or experiences technical difficulties. Most of the other colorful elements in his artworks are either that, or symbols reminiscent of advertising emblems. Even his usage of light boxes, also correlates to this, since light boxes were originally used for publicly promoting merchandise or business establishments along makati and all the other industrialized cities around the world. For we all we know, this might be his subtle statement towards the supreme commercialization of all natural beautiful things, such as music, art, literature, religion, and the like, the things that have been originally conjured to express one’s understanding of the world and not for the political slavery of fame and financial gains.
Or not.
