There are a number of possible perspectives on this.

This can be a phenomenon where energy is mirrored off a surface, whether in the form of light or sound, or something else. Where the photons of the light are partly absorbed but mostly reflected within the peripheries that make up what we see. Just as we have never before seen ourselves but from a surface. Then one comes across a myth where a man looks into the water, into his reflection, yearning for himself in deep contemplation. In certain cultures, seeing one’s reflection is a window into one’s soul, believing this is how gods look into ours. Split in between, sharing some likeness but don’t seem to be one and the same. But more, two of the same thing. Or even more. Just as embracing the existence of something is accepting its realities, so too is realizing that there is no one thing, completely. There is good on one end and something else on the other. And eventually, it won’t be the same thing it was. Where two of the same thing is more two opposing meanings. But it is not so much as contemplating these interactions but the reflective exercise of looking from one point to another, taking a step back, and then zeroing in again. From here. From there. Into the reflected image.

Is Jumalon takes us into a reflection on the mere act of looking, what it means to look, and questioning.

What do you see?

There is a play of incidences and reflection, moments passing in the process. An inquest on the observation that has gone by and exploration that will be, all clumped and cast in stretches. Where the material exists and the reflected image cannot be reduced to that of the natural physical world, its reflecting surface, its water through light. Where viewing her works is encountering a series of fragments on surfaces. These glimpses that make a stare, this act of perceiving, universal. The taking and layering over on fractions and impressions. Dilated and then condensed, never seeing the same thing. All from different perspectives. Blow by blow. But never knowing which went first and thereafter. What was seen and what comes next to this?

As soon as the thought takes over, the observation has already passed.
