See You

Pow Marin

Hold it, sit with it, see it. Sometimes that’s all we can do with the wake of departures.

In See You, artist Pow Marin traverses the slow healing process that creeps over the void left when loved ones leave. In his psychedelic works on canvas, there’s a forlorn sense of nostalgia that is felt as it’s seen, a kind of coping etched into each meticulous pattern within a pattern. custom nfl jersey Lace Front Wigs nike air maxes 97 human hair wigs best male sex toys custom jerseys baseball wholesale sex toys custom hoodies for men adidas yeezy for men wig for sale adidas online store custom nfl jerseys nfl jerseys for sale nike air max cheap sex toys

It says “See You”  three ways: as a loosely avoided, unspoken goodbye; as a muted sort of hope that springs from the sheer possibility of possibilities on whether or not you actually will still see them; and as an act of seeing yourself and your situation for what it is, so that you can better know what kind of care you need to seek and give yourself to grow.

One of the pitfalls of an unhealthy emphasis of hustle culture is the demands it makes on our natural processes. Heal faster and let go of any unproductive baggage, among other unreasonable daily demands. Marin’s works feel like a slowing down to a pace where we can still cradle the validity of the sometimes chided pain of having to let go of the things you love most—friend circles growing small, family members transplanting their lives abroad, and things that we thought made up our best days.

Tending to aftermaths and emotional wounds might be one of the lesser sung about parts of our respective hero’s journeys. In these works, Marin acknowledges the non-linearity of healing, especially at a stage so fresh. There are strong swings back to bitterness, while also swaying towards an appreciation of the inadvertent beauty that upheavals bring like the sense of freedom to be himself again, and a renewed sense of appreciation for the people and things that have proven to be consistent anchors in his life. Despite and in spite of growing pains, Marin sought for the final pieces to contain joy and preserve the vibrance of tender moments held dear. As evident in his use of the nostalgic imagery of youth and family, his painting is reminiscent of a kind of forgotten playfulness that sometimes proves to be a necessary companion while wading through the muck of existential madness. He hopes to one day look back on these works and see how much has bloomed since.

See you, see you, see you. One way or another.
