Artifacts of Becoming gathers the works of Jojo Barja, Rene Cuvos, Froilan Calayag, Reen Barrera and Blic and investigates youth, growth and the coming to terms with becoming adults. It investigates how kids are nowadays and reflects on each artist’s experience of youth through symbolic objects such as those featured in each artist’s work.

The works are connected by the objects they present, and how these objects help define youth, living experiences of the artists as kids, and the things they hold on to that keep that connection between their present state and childhood. It also offers a glimpse into how being a child has changed over the years – the artists’ changing outlook, vision and surrounding society – and how each artist defines youth. As the title suggests, each piece serves as a tool to help understand the places, objects and experiences that illustrate how each artist defines youth and childhood, and the ways this changes throughout the years. Through these artifacts, we can get a sense of how each artist goes and grows through it all.
