Auggie Fontanilla
November 7- 28,2026

Auggie Fontanilla transforms the map into a reflection of cultural memory, bringing together geography and the visual language of everyday life. Using cartographic imagery as his starting point, he fills the city with fragments of Filipino pop culture, jailhouse tattoos, street typography, folklore, religious symbols, and contemporary visual references.
Instead of mapping streets and boundaries, Fontanilla creates a territory shaped by memory, identity, and everyday experience. He takes familiar images and symbols, rearranges them, and places them in new contexts. As these elements come together, they reveal unexpected connections between the personal and the collective, the familiar and the imagined.
The layers of images speak to how culture evolves through history, migration, outside influences, and the experiences of ordinary people. More than a map of a city, the work becomes a portrait of the people who inhabit it and the stories, beliefs, and visual references they carry. It suggests that a place is defined not only by its streets and landmarks, but also by the culture and imagination of the people who call it home
