Recollection
In our everyday lives, we often encounter things or objects that suddenly give us a flashback, a moment to think, a time to reminisce and to reflect. A moment where it will remind us of something that is significant, something that is worth remembering and something to look back to. No matter how remote the memories are, when its relevance comes upfront, we can’t help ourselves and our subconscious mind to recall. Today’s experiences, events and the people around us will be our next recollection sometime, somewhere. It’s inevitable.
“Living and growing up in place where culture is so rich, surrounded by great heritage of the past, I can’t help but to link the present from my yesteryears. The moment when I see an object or the moment I step into a place, being in the same event but in a different time will remain a memory. The people around you are no longer there. It’s a mystery when its relevance reminds me of my past, a thought of yesterday and a glimpse of a significant memory, bringing back the old same feelings from a remote past. The simple scent of pine wood in an old room, the damp smell of your pillow and sheets, the sound of the inviting wave and the smell of the salty sea, all of these add an idea of consciously bringing back to mind memories. The aroma of withering leaves and the fading fragrance of flower petals, all that is left are moments of that time. Ironic as it may seem, we only remember when reminded, of these significant recollections”
In his exhibit, Singh intends to continue his homage to memories. A collection of photographs and childhood events are reminders of his colorful past. They are mementos of significant people and life events experiences, a recollection worth sharing.
